CBI on Thursday carried out searches at the office and
residence of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited General Manager Aadesh Kumar Gupta in Noida. CBI sources said searches took place
at his Sector 19 office and Sector 39 residence for allegedly running
businesses without informing the government. The agency also searched a Hauz
Khas-based company allegedly run by the manager and his wife. The sources said
two teams of the agency carried out searches in the morning. When contacted
over phone, Gupta, however, denied any such action saying no officer of CBI or
its teams have contacted him or carried out any searches. CBI sources have
confirmed that Gupta was allegedly running businesses in infrastructure and
garment sector in his name without taking permission from the government.They
said his involvement in the alleged business activity has also
surfaced after which the agency registered a case for alleged violation of Section
168 of Indian Penal
Code against him. The section pertains to a public servant unlawfully
engaged in trade. The sources said agency has seized approximately 3.29 lakhs
cash from his residence, three lockers have also been found. They said
documents pertaining to properties at two locations have also been found.
